How we keep links safe

1. Approved sites only

   A Short Turtle link can only point to a site on our approved list. The list starts from the most-visited sites on the web. When someone asks to add a new site, it's reviewed first. Sites less than six months old are always checked by a person.

2. No hidden hops

   Links can't point to other link shorteners (apart from a few official ones like youtu.be), so the site we show you is the site you get.

3. Checked when made, and again after

   Every destination is checked against Google Web Risk when the link is made, then re-checked on a schedule. If a check finds a threat, the link is suspended right away.

4. No bait-and-switch

   We regularly follow each link's destination to see where it really ends up. If a site starts sending visitors somewhere that isn't approved, a person reviews it. If an owner moves a busy link to a different site, the link is paused until a person checks the new site.

5. Look-alike sites blocked

   Sites made to look like real ones, like amaz0n.com or addresses using look-alike letters, are refused or sent for review.

6. No fake “official” links

   Nobody can claim short codes like /support, /login or a well-known brand's name, so a Short Turtle link can't pretend to come from a company.

7. A person reviews anything flagged

   Links that a safety check or a visitor flags go to a review queue. A person decides whether to clear, suspend or remove them.

8. Look before you click

   Add + to the end of any Short Turtle link, like shrtl.us/abc123+, to see where it goes and its safety checks without opening it.

9. No ads, no waiting pages

   We never show ads or put a page between you and the site. Links go straight to their destination.
